The Diaper Drive & the Families it Serves

In the blazing hot summer of 2022, a mother of three children struggling with housing insecurity was enrolled in the New Vista Emergency Shelter. The client faced many unique challenges that prevented her and her family from affording many essential needs. The client was not only facing homelessness, but also job insecurity and a low fixed income. Upon the client’s arrival at the emergency shelter, her income was only used for basic needs such as food and gas. The client was not able to afford diapers for her youngest daughter and struggled to budget her income in a way that allowed her to afford everything her family needed. Arriving at the New Vista Emergency Shelter, the client was relieved to receive diaper donations for her youngest daughter. The client saved money on diaper expenses and continued to receive a box of diapers about every three weeks. The client was able to save more money while no longer having to worry about the basic needs of her youngest daughter, which enabled her to focus on looking for housing and job opportunities. All thanks to a donation of diapers.

This story, shared by our friends at Pathways of Hope, is one of many stories from Orange County families who benefit from HomeAid’s Diaper Drive.

Since 2008, HomeAid’s annual Diaper Drive has collected 13,530,765 essential items for families experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Orange County.

Every day, families experiencing homelessness struggle to have access to basic needs like diapers, wipes, and baby food for their little ones. HomeAid’s nonprofit partners report needing thousands of diapers to support those in their programs.

The need for diapers is often overlooked, but the impact the Diaper Drive has on Orange County families experiencing homelessness is life-changing. Thanks to the generosity of HomeAid’s many partners, donors, and volunteers, the Diaper Drive continues to be a resounding source of support for families experiencing or at risk of homelessness each year.

Impact Testimonials from our Partners

“The Diaper Drive has been one of the primary ways in which our clients can gain access to diapers. Receiving these diapers can sometimes be the difference between our families buying new school clothes for their children or saving money to create financial security.”

– Mercy House

“From newborns to toddlers, it has been a true privilege to help others with diapers and wipes. This last year we had over 14,000 encounters with clients and we have never had to turn any parents away. Thank you!”

– Family Assistance Ministries

“Through this donation, we were able to help the dozens of families coming through our emergency shelters and rental assistance programs with basic necessities for their little ones. We know how expensive diapers, wipes, and baby formula are and to be able to have this support through our partners meant so much to us and it meant so much to the families.”
