Bragg Crane tilts up 20 panels of 20-ton concrete slab to form the walls of the warehouse – a major component of the Village of Hope campus located at the Tustin Marine Corp Air Station. The Village of Hope, developed by HomeAid Orange County with Builder Captains, Oltmans Construction and Lennar Communities, will ultimately serve homeless families and will be operated by care provider, Orange County Rescue Mission. The Village of Hope is the largest shelter development in Orange County history and is slated to be a model for future closed military bases nationwide.

HomeAid Orange County's $24 million shelter development venture, Village of Hope, located on 5.1-acres on the Tustin Marine Corps Air Station, is raising the walls in its first step of the new construction phase of HomeAid's most arduous undertaking to date. HomeAid is the Building Industry Association's charitable arm charged with the mission of building or renovating shelters for homeless men, women and children.
The January 14th wall raising of the nearly 8,000-square foot intake warehouse involved "tilting up" 20 panels averaging 20 tons each. This vital phase of the construction provided by Bragg Crane, a long-time HomeAid supporter, began at 7:00 a.m. and took approximately eight hours to complete. The Village of Hope development is being led by Builder Captains, Oltmans Construction with Lennar Communities, and is scheduled for completion later this year.
Located on Red Hill near Barranca Street in Tustin, Village of Hope is a 130,000 square-foot multi-use facility designed by Gensler and Axcess Architects and will house a kitchen; dining areas; a donation intake warehouse; and an 8,000 square-foot auditorium, along with support office space designed to serve as the nucleus for the site.
Additionally, the top floor renovation of the existing barracks will provide living quarters for homeless men, women and children in configurations of single and family spaces, while the lower floors will accommodate medical offices, dental offices and vocational training.

In spite of the tremendous effort already in place, there continues to be a need for expanded involvement. Building and trade partners, suppliers and associates interested in participating as in-kind contributors and donors to this one-of-a-kind shelter development may contact Oltmans Construction at (562) 948-4242.
This development, slated to become a national model of successful base re-use planning is the result of a multi-entity collaboration. The dynamic partnership efforts of Village of Hope care provider, the Orange County Rescue Mission; HomeAid Orange County; the Building Industry Association; the City of Tustin; and a host of other individual and corporate contributors is a clear demonstration of how to utilize private and public partnerships to successfully redevelop closed U.S. military bases to help the homeless.
