Over 50 interested neighbors and guests recently gathered to share in the celebration of the Fullerton Interfaith New Vista shelter ground breaking. New Vista, being built in partnership with HomeAid Orange County and Brookfield Homes, will provide a temporary home where families with no where to turn can find refuge, regain self-respect and rediscover integrity as they work their way back into mainstream society.
Working in partnership with Lind & Associates Architecture; iba Design; Lim Chang Rohling Associates, Inc.; and ima + design; the Brookfield Homes building team – led by project manager, Brian Geis – is committed to providing an aesthetically pleasing 1,900-square foot home. Designed to complement the existing Fullerton site, the new construction will include a large kitchen, a lounge, four-car enclosed garage and an enclosed porch.
The shelters developed by HomeAid Orange County, the Building Industry Association's charitable outreach, and its partners, supply the brick and mortar component so that care providers like Fullerton Interfaith can administer programs for the homeless. In addition to the Fullerton New Vista project HomeAid Orange County – with 34 completed Orange County shelters to its credit – is also developing five other projects.
Those shelters include San Miguel Residence for homeless individuals and families being developed by Builder Captains Lennar Homes and Greystone Homes; Mary's Shelter for homeless pregnant teens led by KTGY Group, Inc. and Shea Homes; Village of Hope for homeless families and individuals with Builder Captains Oltmans Construction and Lennar Homes; and Casa Teresa for homeless pregnant women with Builder Captain, Fieldstone Communities.
HomeAid Orange County was established by the leadership of the Orange County Chapter of the Building Industry Association of Southern California in 1989. Those served by HomeAid include women in crisis pregnancy; abused children; victims of domestic violence; homeless adults living with HIV/AIDS; the mentally challenged; homeless youth; and those families and individuals who find themselves homeless as a result of job loss or catastrophic illness.
