Fieldstone Takes on Builder Captain Role
ORANGE, CA (August 17, 2003)

Submitted: August 6, 2003 for Publish Date of August 17, 2003

Homelessness does not exist only in slums or skid rows across America its ugliness is far-reaching. In Southern California – and in particular, Orange County with all of its beauty, its diversity, its prosperity, its pursuers of dreams – are broken lives, tucked away in the shadows of unlikely neighborhoods. In the midst of manicured laws, hillside mansions, and yacht-filled harbors, are shattered futures where homeless men, women and children struggle to find a place to heal, and to be safe, to begin again.

Pregnant women and their innocent newborns represent one of the most provocative of the many hidden Orange County homeless populations served by the Building Industry Association's (BIA) charitable outreach, HomeAid Orange County.

Casa Teresa, a primary care provider for homeless pregnant women, is one of the shelter projects currently under development by HomeAid Orange County and its partners. Led by Builder Captain, Fieldstone Communities, Inc. under the leadership of Steve Cameron, past BIA president and Fieldstone Orange County Metro division president, this renovation will add six beds for Casa Teresa's Adoption Program.

Dawson Hannouche Partners Architects and Planners will design Casa Teresa's renovation with exterior landscape provided by Land Arc West. This Orange-based shelter development is slated for incremental phases so that Casa Teresa residents can make the move into the facility as soon as possible.

Like other HomeAid projects, the Casa Teresa team will reach out to consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and other associates who will donate either pro-bono or at highly reduced costs. Through this collaborative approach, HomeAid is able to develop a project like Casa Teresa with an average of 60 cents on the dollar donated in time, labor and materials.
