The John Kolendich Memorial Golf Tournament
slated for October 4th
ORANGE COUNTY, CA (September 21, 2004)

The late John Kolendich and Matt Kolendich, Valley Building Materials owners, join Chris Crowley the John Kolendich Memorial Golf Tournament organizer seen here at the Valley Building Materials Golf Tournament in 2002. The tournament re-named in honor of founder, John Kolendich, will be held at Aliso Viejo Golf Club on October 4, 2004. Proceeds benefit HomeAid Orange County, the Building Industry Association's charitable arm that builds and renovates shelters for the homeless.
Dust off those clubs, take a few practice swings, and then mark your calendar for Monday, October 4, 2004 when Valley Building Materials (VBM) will once again host its 10th Annual Charity Golf Tournament benefiting HomeAid Orange County, the Building Industry Association of Southern California's charitable outreach. The 2004 tournament has been renamed, the John Kolendich Memorial Golf Tournament in honor of VBM deceased owner who was the initiator and the driving force behind this event.

"In health, John was a friend to so many; in sickness, his fierce will and determination in fighting a two-year battle with cancer inspired us to become more like him," said Kolendich's widow, Kathleen who went on to say that this tournament represents her late husband's desire to change the lives of those less fortunate.

This year's tournament promises to deliver the goods in more ways than one. Held for the forth-consecutive year at Aliso Viejo Golf Club, The John Kolendich Memorial Golf Tournament touts an amazing array of raffle prizes rivaling any local tournament. The sale of raffle tickets begins at 8:00 a.m. during tournament registration with sales continuing throughout the day. The mega raffle – including such gifts as stereos, golf gear and original art – will be held during the awards ceremony at 4:30 p.m.

The scramble format tournament begins with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. followed by a cocktail hour at 3:30 and buffet spread provided by Peppino's Italian Restaurant. Tournament cost is $250, which includes a promo bag, continental breakfast, box lunch and buffet dinner; dinner only is $60.00 per person.

Tournament organizer, Chris Crowley architectural representative for Valley's Lake Forest and Yucaipa stores said that many of the company's commercial and residential architects, contractors and designer clients participate year after year.

"This tournament is a much-anticipated can't miss annual event, made even more significant with the name change honoring its creator, John Kolendich," said Crowley. "We're looking forward to another full field at this year's tournament…interested golfers should be sure to sign up early!" Major John Kolendich Memorial Golf Tournament sponsors-to-date include Blake's Wholesale Stone, Fire Magic, CPC, DCS Perfect Heat, Eldorado Stone, Pepsi, Orco Block Company, Mountain Valley Stone, Delta Stone Products, Inc. and Sir Mix.
