IRVINE, Calif. (October 23, 2007) – Under an immense party tent erected in Fashion Island near Bloomingdale's more than 600 people cheered as TradePartners'TM Hampton Harmony was announced as the 2007 Project PlayhouseTM People's Choice Award recipient at HomeAid Orange County's Project PlayhouseTM Auction Party. Built by Shea Homes with architect Wesseln
Construction, interior designer Interior Lifestyles and landscape architect Land Care, Inc. the classic playhouse was the favorite of adults and children.
HomeAid Orange County's live public auction of the whimsical cottages and miniature mansions displayed at Fashion Island is the culmination of their signature fundraiser Project PlayhouseTM. This year the five week long event raised over $400,000 for the organization's shelter development program.
Guests were mesmerized by the Asian themed evening designed and catered by culinary experts Backstage-A-Fare/Tastebuds Restaurant. The featured entertainment of the exciting and exotic evening were the world renowned Peking Acrobats.
Chuck Dreyer, professional auctioneer and brilliant master of ceremonies brought the atmosphere in the tent to a fevered pitch as enthusiastic bidders competed for exquisitely crafted and fully furnished playhouses. Furnishings included flat screen televisions, surround sound speaker systems, PlayStations and DVD players.
Project Playhouse debuted in 1991 and has been hosted by Fashion Island for the entire 16 years. For five years the Children and Families Commission of Orange County has generously participated as event Presenting Sponsor and State Street returned for the fourth year as the auction party Title Sponsor. Together the overwhelming generosity of sponsors, Orange County's premiere homebuilders and thousands of volunteers have helped raise nearly $5 million for HomeAid Orange County's shelter programs for homeless children, families and
individuals.
"Our partnership with HomeAid Orange County leverages funds to build shelters and provide services for thousands of families," says Maria E. Minon, M.D. Chair of the Children and Families Commission of Orange County. "Supporting Project Playhouse ensures HomeAid can continue its vital mission and at the same time accomplish one of the Commission's goals to strengthen families by providing young children a safe place to live."
