NEWPORT BEACH, CA (November 13, 2006) -- HomeAid Orange County, the Building Industry Association’s nonprofit that builds homeless shelters added a touch of exotic glam to their much-anticipated Project Playhouse Auction Party held recently at Fashion Island in Newport Beach.
A spectacular Moroccan-inspired foyer provided the gateway to an enchanted Arabian Nights Bazaar complete with street scenes, camels, and flying carpets authenticated by the talents of brightly clad ethnic dancers whose gyrations rocked the room as the audience waited in anticipation for the live auction.
The night culminated in a bidding war for nine elaborate playhouses, with selling prices ranging from $15,000 to $45,000 resulting in total event proceeds upwards of $620,000, a Project Playhouse record!
Glen Black Project Playhouse co-chair received The Award of Excellence for his seven-year contribution to the event, and The Peoples Choice Award, based on the votes of the general public, distinguished Wahoo’s Xtreme Sports Shack as the most popular playhouse in 2006! Sports Shack playhouse builder, Pulte Homes received great support from its sponsors; Wahoo’s Fish Tacos that donated cash and a block party for the lucky winner; Aloha Airlines that donated a trip to Hawaii; and Blue C that contributed a dune buggy to this crowd favorite.
With 40 completed shelters to its credit, HomeAid Orange County is the largest providers of shelters for the temporarily homeless in the county. For information call (949) 553-9510 or www.projectplayhouse.org.
