Children Learn Better When They Have a Home
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (August 3, 2006) Warm safe homes for young children and families is a priority for the Children and Families Commission of Orange County. This philosophy is at the core of the Commission's decision to partner for the fourth consecutive year as the presenting sponsor for HomeAid Orange County's Project Playhouse 2006. HomeAid is the Building Industry Association's charitable outreach that builds and renovates shelters for Orange County's homeless men, women and children, and has to date completed 40 shelter developments.
"There are over 35,000 people that experience homelessness annually in Orange County and the fastest growing homeless population is families with children," said Sally Snyder, chair of the Children and Families Commission of Orange County. "A safe home is a critical element of a healthy learning environment. By building shelters and transitional housing for children and their families, HomeAid has had a positive impact on making children healthy and ready to learn when they enter school. The Commission is pleased to be the presenting sponsor and part of this worthwhile effort to provide housing to those who need it," added Snyder.
The Children and Families Commission of Orange County oversees the allocation of funds from Proposition 10 that adds a 50-cent tax on tobacco products sold in California to fund education, health and child development programs for children from the prenatal stage to age five and their families.
