NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF (September 27, 2005) -- HomeAid, the Building Industry Association's charitable outreach that builds and renovates temporary residences for homeless men, women and children recently launched Project Playhouse 2005, the organization's signature fundraiser now in its 14th season.

At the core of Project Playhouse success are California's top builders and their respective teams that donate thousands of dollars in materials and labor so that Orange County's homeless families are given a chance to turn their lives around.

This year in addition to Project Playhouse funds slated for HomeAid's shelter development program, two playhouse builders have gone that extra mile by committing to raise additional designated dollars slated to aid the thousands of victims rendered homeless in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Taylor Woodrow Homes' "Angels in the Dugout" builder has agreed to match up to $50,000 raised through Project Playhouse for the HomeAid Gulf Coast Rebuilding Fund. In an effort to increase the appeal of this unique playhouse, the builder organized an "extreme" team including architects JZMK Partners and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition designer Paul DiMeo who was instrumental in conceptualizing the idea.

This year's Opportunity Prize, "Angels in the Dugout, will be raffled off to one lucky Southern California baseball fan at HomeAid Orange County's Project Playhouse Live Public Auction and Party on October 22nd at Fashion Island.

In honor of "The Spirit of New Orleans," K. Hovnanian Homes dedicated its playhouse to all who have been affected by the tragedy brought about by the wrath of Hurricane Katrina.

"K. Hovnanian will match the sale price of the playhouse and donate that amount to benefit Katrina victims," said Debra DeVries project manager for the K. Hovnanian entry. "The New Orleans playhouse theme had already been selected prior to the devastation and there was some concern whether or not to continue with the theme," said DeVries.

"However after we talked it over, the company decided not only to move forward with the design, but to take our commitment one step further by donating matching dollars to help those in need," explained DeVries.

The proceeds garnered from HomeAid Orange County's Project Playhouse auction and the other related Project Playhouse events will benefit homeless men, women and children who like the victims of Katrina's fury might otherwise be living out of their cars or on the streets.
