Builders Line up for Project Playhouse 2004
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (March 25, 2004)

Harvest Farm was built by Trimark Pacific Homes & designed by Bassenian/Lagoni Architects. Interior Design provided by Two's Company Interiors.
Geppetto's Workshop was built by Pardee Homes and designed by Bassenian/Lagoni Architects. Interior design was provided by Color Design Art.
Claiborne was built by Pulte Homes and Urban Arena Landscape Architecture & Planning with interior design provided by Creative Design Consultants.
The Wild Bunch Hideout, the Project Playhouse Opportunity Prize for 2003 was built by KTGY Group, Inc., with Tony Valentine Construction, Finton Associates and Mike Reeves with interior designer, Marti Fields of Studio Archimia.
HomeAid, a non-profit organization that builds and renovates temporary residences for homeless men, women and children, is gearing up for Project Playhouse 2004, the organization's signature fundraiser now in its13th year.

Every year builders and their respective teams come to the table ready to give their all, as they work countless hours and donate thousands of dollars in materials and labor to do their part to guarantee that Orange County's homeless families are given a chance to turn their lives around.

A first time builder, the Orange County Sheriff's Department, led by nationally recognized Sheriff Michael Carona promises to put a new wrinkle in the event. Joining Sheriff Carona and his team are the 2004 Project Playhouse participants listed below:

To anyone who has seen these elaborate playhouses, it is clear that they are not just simple planks slapped together with fishing line and super glue. Each of the astonishing designs have been created and constructed by some of California's premier architects and builders, who every year manage to make these kid-sized dream homes more amazing than the last.

Approximately 8 feet wide by 10 feet tall, these unique playhouses fully furnished by some of California's top interior designers, feature quality construction and materials such as Italian marble and mahogany and stone; with all materials and labor donated by architects, builders, trade partners, suppliers and building industry associates.

When it comes to amenities and details each of these miniature masterpieces rival custom homes, and can cost between $50,000 and $100,000 to build! Last year's entries included everything from an elaborate waterfall concealing the entry to the Wild Bunch Hideout, to a miniature farmhouse complete with water pump and pet pig.

One of the highlights of HomeAid's six-week exhibit, is Project Playhouse's Open House, a family outing to be held at Fashion Island from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on opening day, Saturday, September 18, 2004. Project Playhouse Open House is the only time throughout the event the public will be able to go inside these fabulous playhouses. Beginning on Sunday, September 19 through Sat., October 23, 2004, the Project Playhouse Village Tours will begin. The Village Tours are offered on Saturdays and Sundays only, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is a $5 donation.

To acquire one of these whimsical playhouses, be on hand October 23rd for Project Playhouse's Auction Party and make your bid. Packed with food, fun and special entertainment, the California Casual Playhouse Auction Gala is set in a fantasy tent backdrop where hundreds of HomeAid supporters are expected to attend, including registered buyers who will try their luck at a successful playhouse bid. Pre-paid tickets are $30 and $40 at the door, $15 children under 12, and kids three and under are free. Family 4-Packs are $75.00. Ticket price includes admission to the auction, dinner and entertainment. HomeAid is currently gearing up for its industry and community-wide sponsorship drive for Project Playhouse 2004. A variety of underwriting and sponsorship offerings are available ranging from $500 to $10,000, each donation receives a variety of benefits depending on the amount of the contribution.

The proceeds garnered from HomeAid's Project Playhouse auction and the other Project Playhouse events will go to benefit homeless men, women and children who otherwise might be living out of their cars or on the streets. To date, Project Playhouse has raised over $3 million dollars to aid the nearly 28,000 homeless men, women in children residing in our county.

HomeAid was founded by the leadership of the Orange County Chapter of the Building Industry Association of Southern California in 1989. The temporarily homeless served by HomeAid include women in crisis pregnancy; victims of domestic violence; the mentally challenged; adults living with HIV/AIDS; and those who find themselves homeless as a result of job loss or catastrophic illness.
