In 1989, the Building Industry Association of Orange County (BIA/OC) founded HomeAid which has now become a national organization with 22 chapters across the country. I had the great privilege to be one of the founding members and to be a part of the initial formation of this outstanding non-profit organization.
As members of the BIA/OC we recognized we truly had the talent, resources, raw materials and compassion to mobilize behind what we do best providing housing for those in need. Now, nearly 20 years later, with the support of thousands of builders, architects, specialty contractors, consultants and individual donors HomeAid Orange County has completed 43 housing developments in our community. Working in collaboration with 25 service providers to the homeless, we've built housing that provides a safe refuge for thousands of men, women and children.
I'm honored to serve as president of HomeAid Orange County's board of directors as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. We begin this momentous celebration with the completion of our landmark housing development The Village of Hope.
This 14 year long project involved the donated labor of more than 400 architects, builders, engineers and specialty contractors. In addition, over 700 donors financially contributed to ensure the $28 million project was completed debt free.
